What Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids is used for

Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid is a herbal medicinal product that:
helps clear mucus from the chest
helps calm coughs and relieve chest congestion
may help boost the immune system.

Before you take Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids

When you must not take it

Do not take Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid if you have an allergy to:
ivy leaf dry extract or to plants of the Araliaceae family (i.e. ginseng family of flowering plants)
any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include:
shortness of breath
wheezing or difficulty breathing
swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
rash, itching or hives on the skin.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
Do not give this medicine to children under 2 years of age.
There is a risk of aggravation of respiratory symptoms in children under 2 years of age.
Do not take this medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack or if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
If you are not sure whether you should start taking this medicine, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Before you start to take it

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from gastritis or gastric ulcer.
Gastrointestinal reactions (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea) have been reported and may worsen your condition.
Seek medical advice before treatment of persistent or recurrent cough in children between 2 to 4 years years of age.

Taking other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you get without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines and Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid may interfere with each other.
It is not recommended to take Bisolvon Chesty Kids Natural Oral Liquid with cough suppressants such as codeine, dextromethorphan or pholcodine without medical advice.
Your doctor and pharmacist have more information on medicines to be careful with or avoid while taking this medicine.

How to take Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully.
They may differ from the information contained in this leaflet.
If you do not understand the instructions on the box/bottle, ask your doctor or pharmacist for help.

How much to take

The recommended doses for Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid are stated below:
Adults and children over 12 years:
10 mL every 4 hours when necessary.
Children 6-12 years of age:
5 mL every 4 hours when necessary.
Children 2-6 years of age:
5 mL every 4 hours when necessary.

How to take it

Shake the bottle well before each use.
Use the enclosed measuring cup to measure the doses correctly.

How long to take it

Consult your doctor or pharmacist if symptoms persist longer than one week during the use of Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid.

If you forget to take it

If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to.
Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking your medicine as you would normally.
Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed.
This may increase the chance of you getting an unwanted side effect.
If you are not sure what to do, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
If you have trouble remembering when to take your medicine, ask your pharmacist for some hints.

If you take too much (overdose)

Immediately telephone your doctor or the Poisons Information Centre (telephone 13 11 26) for advice, if you think that you or anyone else may have taken too much Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.
You may need urgent medical attention.
Signs of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and agitation.

While you are taking Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids

Things you must do

If you are about to be started on any new medicine, remind your doctor and pharmacist that you are taking Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid.
Tell any other doctors, dentists, and pharmacists who treat you that you are taking this medicine.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately if shortness of breath, fever or thick, sticky mucus occurs.

Things to be careful of

Be careful driving or operating machinery while you are taking Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid until you know how it affects you.
No studies on the effect on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.

Side effects

Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are taking Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid.
All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not. You may need medical attention if you get some of the side effects.
Do not be alarmed by the following lists of side effects. You may not experience any of them.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following and they worry you:
nausea
vomiting
diarrhoea.
The above list includes the more common side effects of your medicine.
If any of the following happen, tell your doctor immediately or go to Emergency at your nearest hospital:
shortness of breath
wheezing or difficulty breathing
swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
rash, itching or hives on the skin
red, dilated capillaries on the face and other parts of the body.
The above list includes very serious side effects. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation. These side effects are uncommon.
This product contains sorbitol. The maximum adult daily dose 60 mL contains 9.66 g of sorbitol. Products containing sorbitol may have a laxative effect or cause diarrhoea.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell.
Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some people.

After taking Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids

Storage

Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid should be kept in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
Do not store Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink. Do not leave it on a window sill or in the car.
Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.
Keep it where children cannot reach it.
A locked cupboard at least one-and-a-half metres above the ground is a good place to store medicines.
Discard the bottle after 3 months of first opening.

Disposal

If your doctor tells you to stop taking this medicine or the expiry date has passed, ask your pharmacist what to do with any medicine that is left over.

Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid is an amber cloudy liquid with a lemon honey smell.
Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid is available in bottles containing 200 mL of liquid.
Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid is available from your local pharmacy without a prescription.

Ingredients

Each 10 mL of Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid contains hedera helix 84.5 mg - equivalent to hedera helix dry 528 mg and lactoferrin-bovine (derived from cow's milk) 50 mg.
The other ingredients contained in Bisolvon Chesty Natural Kids Oral Liquid are:
sorbitol solution (70 per cent) (non-crystallising)
glycerol
potassium sorbate
flavours: lemon & honey
simethicone
citric acid - anhydrous
water - purified.
