Romanian woman cleared of having bird flu

Published on January 29, 2006 at 5:44 PM · No Comments

Health officials in Romania say a woman admitted to hospital with suspected bird flu probably has bronchitis.

It appears that preliminary laboratory tests have ruled out the deadly virus.

Adrian Streinu-Cercel, head of Romania's main virus laboratory has said there is no sign of bird flu at present but they are still waiting for blood test results before they are 100 percent certain.

Although Romania has found the avian flu in poultry in 26 villages since October the country has recorded no human cases so far.
