Genencor, a division of Danisco A/S, is the recipient of the Frost & Sullivan 2009 New Product Innovation Award for Biomass Enzymes. The award was granted for Genencor's Accellerase® product line, enzymes used to convert biomass into sugar, a critical step in the production of cellulosic ethanol and other advanced biofuels and biochemicals.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the Accellerase® product line provides feedstock and pre-treatment flexibility, better process economics, accessory products and versatility, which are all significant advantages that make it stand out from the competition.
"In the wake of the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the worldwide drive for alternative, renewable fuels to help combat climate change is greater than ever," said Philippe Lavielle, executive vice president of business development for Genencor. "We are thrilled to be part of this international effort and honored to accept this award from Frost & Sullivan."
"Genencor has a long tradition of world-class research and development to accelerate biofuels development by creating cellulosic enzyme products that cost-effectively break down non-food feedstocks," said Bjarne Adamsen, vice president of business development for Genencor. "To be recognized for our efforts by such prestigious organizations — first with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Sustainable Energy Award in November and now by Frost & Sullivan — is truly an honor."
