UBM Medica US announces that Consultant Live  a leading online community for primary care clinicians, has unveiled a new online sleep disorders educational program to help doctors and nurses help their patients get a good night's rest.

Americans are sleep deprived. People with disturbed sleep tend to have chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, depression, obesity, and cancer, and lack of sleep further reduces their health and quality of life.

In recognition of the importance of sleep to good health, Consultant Live has launched an educational quiz that challenges clinicians to make therapeutic decisions. The quiz links to case discussions with take home points that clinicians can use in daily practice.

Among the highlights of this month's cases:

  • Corticosteroids for Asthma Raise Sleep Apnea Risk A new study suggests maintaining asthma patients on inhaled corticosteroids.
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea Linked to Increased Risk for Glaucoma People with obstructive sleep apnea are at increased risk for open-angle glaucoma.
  • Gestational Diabetes Increases Risk of Sleep Apnea The risk of obstructive sleep apnea is seven times higher in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus.
