MetLife Foundation and GHR Foundation receive Jerome H. Stone Philanthropy Award for Alzheimer's Research

The Alzheimer's Association recognizes two foundations today for their philanthropic efforts to support Alzheimer's disease research. MetLife Foundation and GHR Foundation are receiving the Jerome H. Stone Philanthropy Award for Alzheimer's Research at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2015 (AAIC 2015) in Washington, D.C.

UC Riverside psychologist awarded NIA grant to study early influences on cognitive and physical health by middle age

Researchers pinpoint rare gene mutations that increase risk of heart attack early in life

A team of investigators from the Broad Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital and other leading biomedical research institutions has pinpointed rare mutations in a gene called APOA5 that increase a person's risk of having a heart attack early in life. These mutations disable the APOA5 gene and also raise the levels in the blood of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, a type of fat.

Study suggests potential treatment for cardiovascular disease in people with apoE4 gene variant

Researchers at UT-Southwestern Medical Center have found that the most common variant of the circulating protein apolipoprotein E, called apoE3, helps repair the lining of blood vessels. Individuals with another variant, called apoE4, do not get the benefit of this repair, putting them at higher risk for cardiovascular disease.
