Affymetrix gets FDA clearance to market CytoScan Dx Assay

Affymetrix, Inc. today announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market its CytoScan Dx Assay. This assay is intended for the postnatal detection of DNA copy number variants in patients referred for chromosomal testing. CytoScan Dx Assay is designed to help physicians diagnose children's developmental and intellectual disabilities more comprehensively by enabling a high-resolution genome-wide analysis of genetic aberrations. High resolution analysis can reveal small aberrations not readily seen using traditional techniques.

UMMS researchers commissioned by Alpha-1 Project to develop PiZ antibody

Horizon, AstraZeneca partner to explore oncology-relevant genotypes to identify novel drug targets

Horizon Discovery and AstraZeneca have entered into a research, collaboration and license agreement to explore a range of oncology-relevant genotypes with the aim of identifying and validating a number of novel drug targets. Aerobic glycolysis is a cause of malignancy, show Berkeley Lab researchers

Metabolism was lost in the shadows of cancer research for decades but has recently been reclaiming some of the spotlight. Now, Mina Bissell, Distinguished Scientist with Berkeley Lab's Life Sciences Division and a leading authority on breast cancer, has shown that aerobic glycolysis - glucose metabolism in the presence of oxygen - is not the consequence of the cancerous activity of malignant cells but is itself a cancerous event.

Octapharma enrolls first patients in GAM-27 Phase II/III clinical trial for relapsing multiple sclerosis

Octapharma AG, one of the largest global manufacturers of human proteins, today announced the enrolment of the first two patients in its GAM-27 Phase II/III clinical trial for the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis.
