Candiadiasis, or Thrush, is a fungal infection caused by a group of yeast. There is a score of Candida species, the commonest of which is Candida albicans. They normally inhabit the surfaces and mucus linings of the human body. This includes mouth, vaginal cavity gastrointestinal tract etc.

US Army grants BioDelivery Sciences $1.3M for investigating Bioral Amphotericin B

(NYSE: PRX), today announced that its development partner BioAlliance Pharma SA presented Phase III study results for miconazole Lauriad(R) mucoadhesive buccal tablets (MBT) that demonstrate noninferiority to clotrimazole troches for oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC), an opportunistic infection of the mouth and throat.

AstraZeneca today announced that it submitted a supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of a new indication for SYMBICORT (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dihydrate) Inhalation Aerosol for the treatment of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). SYMBICORT is currently approved for the long-term maintenance treatment of asthma in patients 12 years and older.

Pfizer receives FDA approval for Eraxis to treat candidemia

Pfizer said today that Eraxis (anidulafungin) has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat candidemia, a potentially life-threatening bloodstream infection. Candidemia is the most deadly of the common hospital-acquired bloodstream infections, with a mortality rate of approximately 40 percent.
