Human growth, height, size: Reasons to be small

Almost everybody these days thinks that it is best to be tall, meaning much taller than the average traditional height of Asian populations, and even taller than the current average height of populations in high-income countries. It is also often believed – though people might be shy to admit this – that tall people are intrinsically superior to short people. The expressions 'look up to' and 'look down on' are significant.

Heavy drinking related to pancreatic cancer: Study

According to the latest research, heavy drinkers have an increased risk of dying from pancreatic cancer. The study has shown that non-smokers who have three or more drinks of hard liquor a day face a 36 percent higher risk of dying from pancreatic cancer, compared with non-drinkers. Smoking is a definite risk for pancreatic cancer. The report is published in the March 14 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

CLL patients receive Biothera's new combination therapy in Phase I/II clinical trial

Canadian Partnership to receive second mandate from Harper Government for cancer control

Today's announcement of renewed support for cancer control by Prime Minister Harper is great news for Canadians. The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer is receiving a second five-year mandate, to begin in 2012, and $250 million in funding to continue implementation of Canada's national cancer control strategy.

NCI report: Number of US cancer survivors increases to 11.7 million during 2007

The number of cancer survivors in the United States increased to 11.7 million in 2007, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health. There were 3 million cancer survivors in 1971 and 9.8 million in 2001.
