ENMD-2076 demonstrates antitumor activity against murine xenograft models of CRC: Study

EntreMed, Inc., today announced the publication of preclinical results for its clinical-stage Aurora A/angiogenic kinase inhibitor, ENMD-2076, in human colorectal cancer xenograft models. The results of the study, conducted by EntreMed collaborators at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, were published in the June 1, 2010 issue of Clinical Cancer Research (Vol. 16, Issue 11).

Raptor Pharmaceutical acquires exclusive license to intellectual property for Huntington's Disease treatment

Raptor Pharmaceutical Corp., announced that the Company has acquired an exclusive worldwide license to intellectual property related to the potential treatment of Huntington's Disease from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and Niigata University in Japan. In addition, Raptor has added Professor Lawrence Steinman, M.D., an inventor on the Weizmann patent, to its Advisory Board.

ZymoGenetics commences Phase 2B study of PEG-Interferon lambda in hepatitis C

ZymoGenetics, Inc. today announced the initiation of the second part of a Phase 2 clinical trial with PEG-Interferon lambda (IL-29) and ribavirin in treatment-naïve patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. ZymoGenetics is developing the investigational compound PEG-Interferon lambda in collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.

Mannitol improves effectiveness of HUCBs in neonatal rat models of cerebral palsy

The sugar-alcohol compound mannitol improved the therapeutic effectiveness of human umbilical cord blood cells injected into neonatal rat models of cerebral palsy, reports a new international study led by the University of South Florida. The mannitol opened the blood-brain barrier by temporarily shrinking the tight endothelial cells that make up the barrier.

Results from AMRI's on-going Phase I clinical study of ALB 109564(a) published online

AMRI announced today that on-going results from its Phase I clinical study on its novel tubulin inhibitor, ALB 109564(a), were published on the website of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (abstract.asco.org/alb). These results indicate that ALB 109564(a) is well tolerated at the doses tested and shows preliminary evidence of clinical activity in disease types not typically treated with approved vinca alkaloids.

Sticky gel composed of MPEG-pDHA may help seal wounds created by surgery: Study

A compound found in sunless tanning spray may help to heal wounds following surgery, according to new results published by plastic surgeons from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City and biomedical engineers at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., where the novel compound was developed.

FDA warns consumers not to purchase or use Arrow Brand Medicated Oil & Embrocation

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today warned consumers not to purchase or use a product called "Arrow Brand Medicated Oil & Embrocation," also labeled as "Aceite Medicinal La Flecha (Spanish) or "箭嘜驅風油 (Mandarin)." The product is potentially toxic and contains two substances, methyl salicylate and camphor, which are poisonous when ingested.

Shark cartilage extract shows no benefit for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer

In the first scientific study of its kind, shark cartilage extract, AE-941 or Neovastat, has shown no benefit as a therapeutic agent when combined with chemotherapy and radiation for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer, according to researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
