Eurotech announces $1.2M contract to supply embedded computers to medical OEM

Eurotech, a leading supplier of embedded technologies, products, and systems, today announces a 1.2 Million USD contract to supply embedded computers to a leading medical original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that specializes in blood management and cardiopulmonary devices. The two-year contract will allow the customer to meet market demand for blood diagnostic equipment with the Eurotech TurboXb computer on module.

Biomagnetics Diagnostics reports positive test results of unique PVA film formulation

Biomagnetics Diagnostics Corp., a developer of revolutionary diagnostic systems and technology for HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis and malaria detection, and other innovative technologies, today announced the results of recent testing of the unique PVA film formulation produced by Lanzhou Sanhuan New Technology Development Ltd. of Ganzu, China. Earlier this week, Biomagnetics announced its intent to acquire Lanzhou as the first of several planned acquisitions to be done at a $1.00 share price valuation for Biomagnetics Diagnostics' common shares.

Lakeridge Health, UHN announce shared management of Laboratory Services

Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health and Dr. Robert Bell, CEO of the University Health Network are proud to announce the shared management of LH's Laboratory Services with those of UHN. UHN's laboratory currently manages all services for Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital, and 13 other hospitals. Laboratory services will continue to be provided in the LH laboratory while being managed by UHN administrative, clinical, and quality experts.

Merck acquires Millipore for $7.0 billion

Merck KGaA, a global pharmaceutical and chemical company, today announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Millipore Corporation, a leading Life Science company based in Billerica, Massachusetts, USA, for an aggregate purchase price including debt and cash of approximately $7.0 billion. Merck agreed to acquire Millipore on February 28, 2010 for $107 in cash per share of Millipore common stock.

New HIV treatment strategy could reduce HIV-related deaths by 10M in 15 years, UNAIDS says

UNAIDS on Tuesday outlined a new strategy, called "Treatment 2.0," to simplify the provision of HIV treatment and improve global access to antiretrovirals, Reuters reports. The agency says the plan could prevent up to 10 million AIDS-related deaths by 2025 and reduce the number of new HIV infections annually by up to one million, if all people in need receive treatment, according to the news service.

Amorfix grants Biogen Idec exclusive worldwide rights to lead ALS monoclonal antibodies

Amorfix Life Sciences Ltd. today announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement granting Biogen Idec exclusive worldwide rights to Amorfix's lead amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) monoclonal antibodies. The antibodies have shown efficacy in animal models of ALS and Biogen Idec will now, at its expense, complete the development and prepare for clinical trials.

NIAID awards ATCC multimillion dollar MID-BRR contract

ATCC, the premier biological materials resource, services, and standards organization, has been awarded the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Biological Resource Repository ("MID-BRR") contract, ATCC announced today. The current value of the contract is $14,615,598 with the ultimate value of $115,733,409 over 7 years with an annual renewal.

New research studies presented at Alzheimer's Association International Conference

The primary therapeutic target in Alzheimer's disease has been the beta amyloid peptide, which clusters outside cells in the brain to form sticky clumps known as plaques. Recently, more attention has been given to the tau protein, which aggregates inside the brain cells of people with Alzheimer's, forming neurofibrillary tangles. Precisely how these proteins interact in causing the disease is unclear.

Roche obtains global co-exclusive license for PI3K biomarker from QIAGEN

Roche announced today that the company has obtained a worldwide co-exclusive license for the biomarker PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) from QIAGEN to develop real-time and endpoint PCR diagnostic assays. Johns Hopkins University owns the patent for the PI3K biomarker and has previously granted an exclusive license to QIAGEN's wholly owned subsidiary DxS, now QIAGEN Manchester.
