Emisphere Technologies to sell securities for funding its operations

Emisphere Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: EMIS) today announced that it has received commitments from two institutional investors to purchase $4 million of securities in a registered direct offering. Emisphere entered into a securities purchase agreement with these investors pursuant to which Emisphere has agreed to sell an aggregate of 5,714,286 shares of its common stock and warrants to purchase up to 2,685,714 additional shares of its common stock. Each unit, consisting of one share of common stock and a warrant to purchase 0.47 of a share of common stock, will be sold for a purchase price of $0.70.

Net sales decreased 8.8% to $123.9 million in the second quarter of 2009 compared with $135.8 million in the second quarter of 2008. Income from operations was $16.6 million in the second quarter of 2009, compared to $16.0 million in the second quarter of 2008. Net loss was $1.2 million in the second quarter of 2009, compared with a net loss of $1.3 million in the second quarter of 2008.

'Nanobee' drug delivery to tumors

When bees sting, they pump poison into their victims. Now the toxin in bee venom has been harnessed to kill tumor cells by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The researchers attached the major component of bee venom to nano-sized spheres that they call nanobees.
