Emisphere, Novo Nordisk partner to develop and commercialize oral formulations of insulins

Emisphere Technologies, Inc. and Novo Nordisk A/S today announced that they have entered into an exclusive Development and License Agreement to develop and commercialize oral formulations of Novo Nordisk's insulins, which have the potential of treating diabetes, using Emisphere's Eligen® Technology. This is the second license agreement between the two companies. The first agreement, for the development of oral formulations of GLP-1 receptor agonists, was signed in June 2008, with a potential drug currently in a Phase I clinical trial.

Zealand receives EUR 500,000 milestone payment from Helsinn Healthcare for ZP1846 development program

Zealand Pharma, a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative peptide drugs that recently listed on NASDAQ OMX, today announces the receipt of a EUR 500,000 (DKK 3.73 million) milestone payment as part of its license agreement with Helsinn Healthcare for the development of ZP1846 for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced diarrhoea. This milestone payment has no impact on the Company's outlook for 2010.

Ortho-McNeil terminates collaboration agreement with Arena on APD597 trial program

Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that, following the completion of a Phase 1 clinical trial program for APD597 (JNJ-38431055) under its collaboration with Arena, Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has decided not to advance APD597 and has notified Arena that it is terminating the collaboration, effective December 28, 2010.

Caliper Life Sciences third quarter GAAP revenue decreases 8% to $29.7 million

Caliper Life Sciences, Inc., today reported results for its third quarter ended September 30, 2010. Third quarter GAAP revenue decreased 8% to $29.7 million from $32.2 million in the same period in 2009 as a result of divestitures in 2010 and 2009. Revenue from on-going business increased 10% on a reported basis and 11% on an organic basis.

Australian reimbursement committee is set to consider Novo Nordisk's type 2 diabetes treatment

In its November meeting, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) will consider Novo Nordisk's second-to-market glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist Victoza for reimbursement, which would be essential in order for the drug to compete effectively with Eli Lilly's Byetta. However, its chances of success are uncertain, considering that it took three years to get Byetta on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
