Rapid, multiplexed genotyping method to identify SNPs that affect warfarin dose developed

Researchers from the Ohio State University have developed a rapid, multiplexed genotyping method to identify the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that affect warfarin dose. The related report by Yang et al, "Rapid Genotyping of SNPs Influencing Warfarin Drug Response by SELDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry," appears in the March 2010 issue of the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics.

Kaiser Family Foundation www.kff.org study that reports that the relentless progression of new and expensive medical technology, combined with entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid, further compounded by an aging population, have created a "perfect storm" of costs that will consume well over half of all federal spending between now and the turn of the mid-century.

The Governor's Office of Health Care Reform has received more than $17 million in federal Recovery Act funds to help develop a health information "superhighway" to connect health care practitioners, patients, facilities and pharmacies through a secure network giving them the ability to have a complete record of a patient's medical history.

Anthem Blue Cross' payment cuts for physical therapy services will financially prevent providers from offering care

Patients enrolled in Anthem Blue Cross of California may be in for a rude and costly awakening the next time they visit a physical therapist. According to the California Physical Therapy Association, the insurance company is slashing payment for physical therapy services to a rate so low it is financially impossible for many physical therapists to continue providing care to enrollees of Anthem Blue Cross.
