The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) today announced its selection of Amanda Gaynor Ashley, D.M.D., Ms.Edu., director of the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital Dental Clinic in Barrow, Alaska, to receive a Community Health Leaders Award. She is one of 10 extraordinary Americans who will receive the RWJF honor for 2009 at a ceremony this evening at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The panel will be a part of the fourth annual Values Voter Summit and will feature Congressman Tom Price (R-GA), Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN), and Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ). The panel will also take questions from the audience.

U.N. General Assembly votes to create U.N. agency for women

After three years of negotiations, the U.N. General Assembly unanimously voted on Monday "to create a new, more powerful agency for women, in a move supporters hailed as a breakthrough for women's equality and rights," Reuters reports (Worsnip, 9/14). Last week, Cuba, Egypt, Iran and Sudan "mounted a last-minute campaign to delay ratification" (Kaiser Daily Global Health Policy Report, 9/11).
