USPTO issues patent for Rosetta Genomics' human microRNA miR-193b

Rosetta Genomics, Ltd., a leading developer of microRNA-based molecular diagnostics, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued U.S. Patent No. 7,592,441 to Rosetta Genomics. The patent relates to human microRNA miR-193b, as well as to complementary probes and vectors. This is the third patent issued to Rosetta Genomics by the USPTO.

Quintiles and Eisai partner to develop potential oncology products

Quintiles today announced a strategic alliance with leading global pharmaceutical company Eisai Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) to develop six potential oncology products in Eisai’s R&D pipeline. Under the terms of the agreement, Quintiles’ oncology experts will conduct Phase II proof-of-concept studies for 11 solid tumor indications. BD to acquire HandyLab

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company)announced today that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire HandyLab, Inc., an Ann Arbor, Michigan-based company that develops and manufactures molecular diagnostic assays and automation platforms. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close during the first quarter of fiscal year 2010. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

NCI awards $2.8 million grant to Allegro Diagnostics

Novartis' Tasigna capsules meets primary endpoint in comparison trial with Gleevec

Novartis announced today that Tasigna (nilotinib) 200 mg capsules met its primary endpoint in the first head-to-head comparison with the company's groundbreaking drug Gleevec (imatinib mesylate) tablets*. Tasigna produced faster and deeper responses than Gleevec when given as first-line therapy for adult patients with newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in chronic phase. Tasigna was well tolerated in the study.

According to Frost & Sullivan, the diagnostics and monitoring sectors are poised to present more growth opportunities.
