Clinical data evaluating CAL-101 in patients with hematologic malignancies to be presented at ASCO 2010

JCVI researchers construct first self-replicating, synthetic bacterial cell

Researchers at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), a not-for-profit genomic research organization, published results today describing the successful construction of the first self-replicating, synthetic bacterial cell. The team synthesized the 1.08 million base pair chromosome of a modified Mycoplasma mycoides genome.

Preliminary data of BIBW 2992 in head and neck cancer, NSCLC to be presented at ASCO 2010

Boehringer Ingelheim will announce preliminary data in the areas of head and neck cancer and non-small cell lung cancer for one of the company's investigational compounds, BIBW 2992. NeuroTherapeutics Pharma closes $43 million Series B financing round

NeuroTherapeutics Pharma, Inc. (NTP), a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapies for central nervous system (CNS) disorders, announced today that it closed a $43 million Series B financing. New investors include Fidelity Biosciences, MPM Capital and SR One, who co-led the transaction, and Pfizer, Inc. Boston University biomedical engineers develop new nanopore method for DNA sequencing

Sequencing DNA could get a lot faster and cheaper - and thus closer to routine use in clinical diagnostics - thanks to a new method developed by a research team based at Boston University. The team has demonstrated the first use of solid state nanopores - tiny holes in silicon chips that detect DNA molecules as they pass through the pore - to read the identity of the four nucleotides that encode each DNA molecule.

Targacept commences Phase 2 clinical proof of concept trial of TC-5619 in adults with ADHD

Targacept, Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing novel NNR Therapeutics (TM), today announced that it has initiated a Phase 2 clinical proof of concept trial of TC-5619 in adults with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Positive data from Geron's TAT153 small molecule telomerase activator in animal model of IPF

Geron Corporation today announced positive data on its orally available small molecule telomerase activator, TAT153, in an animal model of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The data show that administration of TAT153 increased telomerase activity in the lung tissue, reduced inflammation, preserved functional lung tissue, slowed disease progression and attenuated loss of pulmonary function.
