Hitachi to provide Mayo Clinic with two sets of proton beam therapy systems

Hitachi, Ltd. today announced that it has entered into an agreement to provide Mayo Clinic with its proton beam therapy (PBT) system. This next-generation technology has spot scanning capability for treating certain forms of cancer. The agreement includes PBT system maintenance for both facilities for 10 years following completion of the systems' installation.

Proton radiography imaging helps lower radiation dosage to pediatric cancer patients

Proton radiography imaging used prior to and during proton treatments for pediatric cancer patients provides for more accurate treatment delivery and a lower dose of radiation compared to standard diagnostic X-rays and cone beam CT, according to a study presented today at the Cancer Imaging and Radiation Therapy Symposium in Atlanta. The symposium is co-sponsored by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

Emory plays key role in bringing advanced proton cancer therapy to Georgia

CDH Proton Center expands treatment capacity

The CDH Proton Center, A ProCure Center, in suburban Chicago, is now able to treat a wider variety of cancer tumors with the opening of a treatment room with a gantry, a nearly 100-ton rotating steel wheel that allows the proton beam to be directed at the tumor from any angle.

RaySearch Lab receives two new orders for its RayStation treatment planning system

Philanthropist awards Mayo Clinic $100 million to establish Proton Beam Therapy Program

Mayo Clinic today announced long-time patient and philanthropist Richard O. Jacobson has given a $100 million gift to help establish the multi-site Mayo Clinic Proton Beam Therapy Program. This is the largest outright gift in the clinic's history, as well as the largest gift Mr. Jacobson has made to any single institution.

First group of patients 'graduate' from treatment at CDH Proton Center, A Procure Center

Two months after the opening of the CDH Proton Center, A ProCure Center, the first patients have "graduated" from their treatment surrounded by family, friends and staff. The group of graduating patients, whose tumors included prostate, brain and a non-cancerous tumor on the spinal cord, received proton therapy, an alternative to standard X-ray radiation that spares healthy tissue and results in far fewer short- and long-term treatment side effects.
