Rhinitis, commonly known as a runny nose, is the medical term describing irritation and inflammation of some internal areas of the nose. The primary symptom of rhinitis is nasal dripping. It is caused by chronic or acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose due to viruses, bacteria or irritants.

Chronic rhinitis associated with hospital readmissions for asthma and COPD patients

Patients hospitalized for either asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have a higher risk of being readmitted for a hospital stay within 30 days of release if they also suffer from chronic rhinitis, according to a trio of researchers at the University of Cincinnati.

GlaxoSmithKline plc and Innoviva, Inc. announced that the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has issued a positive opinion today supporting the use of Trelegy Ellipta in a broader group of patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and that labeling, if approved, will be updated to further reflect its effect on exacerbations of COPD.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers and health care professionals about a voluntary recall of one lot of Montelukast Sodium Tablets – lot number MON17384, expiration 12/31/2019 – by Camber Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Piscataway, N.J. Sealed bottles labeled as montelukast sodium tablets, 10 milligram, 30-count bottle from Camber were found to instead contain 90 tablets of Losartan Potassium Tablets, 50 mg.
