IBM Maximo software helps GNL ensure optimal performance of equipment in fight against emerging infectious diseases

In the fight against emerging infectious diseases, The Galveston National Laboratory (GNL), one of two National Institutes of Health funded bio-containment laboratories in the United States, is benefiting from IBM software to ensure the optimal performance of all equipment functioning within its facility. The GNL, which is dedicated to the study and prevention of emerging infectious diseases, will use IBM Maximo Asset Management Software to help automate, manage and ensure the performance of its 3,000 operating assets in one of the world's most complex medical research environments.

Medicaid cuts hurt Calif. dental coverage, drive away doctors in Okla; Public hospitals in NYC fear possible reductions

NPR: "In California, it's been seven months since some 3 million poor and disabled adults lost their dental coverage to budget cuts. ... While the recession may be easing, California and other states across the country continue to face eye-popping budget deficits. As a result, states are cutting deep into public health programs, and dental benefits for Medicaid recipients top the list. ... Before the state budget cuts, Medicaid patients here could get annual exams, cleanings and, if needed, root canals to save their teeth.

Labopharm's public offering underwriters exercise over-allotment option to purchase additional 1.7M units

Labopharm Inc. today announced that the underwriters for the recently announced public offering of newly issued units have exercised in full their over-allotment option to purchase an additional 1,764,706 units. The 1,764,706 additional units are being sold at the public offering price of US$1.70 per unit and will bring the total number of units issued under the public offering to 13,529,412 units.

Labopharm Inc. today announced the closing of its previously announced underwritten public offering of 11,764,706 units. The units were sold at a price of US$1.70 per unit for gross proceeds of US$20 million. Net proceeds were US$18,150,000 after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions, and estimated offering expenses.

White House hints at new health bill as GOP sees possible upside in summit

White House officials "hinted on Tuesday that President Obama might post his own [health care] bill on the Internet before the bipartisan health care summit he is planning" next week, The New York Times reports. "In the nearly a year since Congress began debating a health care overhaul, Mr. Obama has yet to make his own priorities explicit. He said at the outset that he would set broad parameters for the measure and leave the details to lawmakers." Obama said last week that hoped to post to the Internet a merged bill that would address costs and expand coverage.

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals' IPO: Underwriters exercise over-allotment option

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the underwriters of its February 2, 2010 initial public offering (IPO) have exercised their over-allotment option in full on an additional 2.5 million shares of Ironwood’s Class A common stock. With the completion of the IPO and the exercise of the over-allotment option, Ironwood has approximately 97.4 million shares of common stock outstanding (approximately 19.2 million shares of Class A common stock and 78.2 million shares of Class B common stock).
