DPT granted FDA approval to manufacture Collagenase SANTYL Ointment for wound care

DPT Laboratories, Ltd., a pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization, announced today that it received FDA approval to manufacture commercial supplies of a leading sterile ointment for wound care at its Center of Excellence for Sterile & Specialty Products in Lakewood, N.J. Beginning this month, Healthpoint will ship commercial lots of Collagenase SANTYL® Ointment produced at DPT's Lakewood facility to its North American customers.

BioMimetic Therapeutics to assess safety, clinical utility of Augment Rotator Cuff Graft

BioMimetic Therapeutics, Inc. today announced it initiated enrollment in a pilot clinical trial to assess the safety and clinical utility of AugmentTM Rotator Cuff Graft for the repair of large rotator cuff tears. The randomized, controlled pilot trial is expected to include enrollment of up to 30 patients.

Researchers synthesize wound-healing peptides

Newly-created bioactive peptides promote wound healing through the growth of new blood vessels and epithelial tissue, such as skin. These wound-healing peptides, synthesized by researchers at the Tufts Center for Innovations in Wound Healing Research, increased angiogenesis in vitro by 200 percent.

Knee replacement operations cause bacterial infection in the joint

Last year 12 700 knee replacement operations were carried out in Sweden. Most such operations go well, but some patients are affected by bacterial infection in the joint and have to be re-operated. This is a complicated procedure that does not always produce successful results, as shown in a thesis by Anna Stefánsdóttir from Lund University in Sweden.

In a study published in the journal Developmental Cell, Sarah Millar PhD, professor of Dermatology and Cell & Developmental Biology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and colleagues demonstrate that a pair of enzymes called HDACs are critical to the proper formation of mammalian skin.

Williams oversees fiscal responsibility for the Emergency Department. In this position, she has identified opportunities to overcome billing obstacles through intradepartmental collaboration and nurse education on proper documentation for reimbursement.
