The Cellometer Auto 1000 from Nexcelom Bioscience is a touchscreen automated cell counter developed for Trypan blue viability.
Trypan Blue Viability in Less than 10 Seconds!
Using bright-field imaging, the Cellometer Auto 1000 detects and counts individual dead cells and live cells stained with Trypan blue in a fast and accurate manner. The count, diameter, concentration, and % viability of cells are automatically estimated and reported in less than 10 seconds.

Individual Cells in Clusters and Irregular-Shaped Cells can be Analyzed
Clumpy Cells
By using the Cellometer pattern-recognition software, individual cells inside the cell clusters can be identified and counted to achieve the most precise cell counts. The image shown below is an example of the counted A549 cancer cells.
Irregular-Shaped Cells
The cell roundness setting of the Cellometer can be modified to detect and count irregular-shaped cells, like activated T-cells, RD cells, and skin cancer cells such as the SK-MEL-2 cells illustrated below.
Cell Size Analysis and Size-Based Counting
The Cellometer Auto 1000 cell counter automatically creates a cell-size histogram depending on the diameter of cells. The settings of maximum and minimum cell diameters can be improved to count specific cells within a sample, or to exclude very large cells or debris.
Stand-Alone Instrument with Large Touch Screen
The Cellometer Auto 1000 cell counter is an easy-to-use, multipurpose system. The integrated computer can be connected to a network through a USB cable, or the counting data can be automatically saved by using a USB drive.
The huge 10″ Auto 1000 touch-screen facilitates simple operation and allows effortless observation of the counted cells and morphology of cells. Users can easily choose the saved assays with improved counting parameters for specific types of cells.
Counted Cell Images for Data Verification
Each cell is different from one another. Through the Cellometer Auto 1000 cell counter, the morphology of cells can be directly visualized on-screen in the bright-field image. The counted cells can be visualized to further confirm whether the cells within the sample are being imaged and examined correctly.
Users can confirm whether:
- Debris has been excluded
- Cells have been counted properly, depending on their shape and size
- Cells inside the tiny clusters have been counted separately
More than 20x Faster than Manual Counting
It takes roughly 5 minutes to count 1 x 106 cells with a manual hemacytometer. At times, it takes twice as long to count dead cells and live cells. The Cellometer Auto 1000 Cell Viability Counter estimates the cell count and concentration for dead and live cells and also calculates % viability in less than 10 seconds.
Data Accuracy and Consistency can be Improved
- Judgment errors are eliminated
- Wash steps are eliminated
- Recording and calculation errors are eliminated
- Inter-operator variability is reduced
- Counting time is reduced, enabling users to run more experiments
Counting Chambers — No Washing or Contamination
The Cellometer Disposable Counting Chambers feature a pair of separately enclosed chambers with an accurately regulated height. Using a normal single-channel pipette, a 20 mL cell suspension is placed inside the chamber, which, in turn, is inserted into the Cellometer cell counter. The cells are then directly imaged from the chamber.
The disposable Cellometer cell counting chambers offer several major benefits:
- No danger of cross-contamination
- Elimination of the washing step saves time
- A controlled volume of samples
- Decreased biohazard risk to users
Auto-Save Data and Cell Images
Users can directly print from the instrument screen. The normal printout shows dead, live, and total count and concentration of cells, cell images, and % viability. Users can automatically create a report for each cell count by selecting the “Auto-Print” setting.
Users can effortlessly save images and data to a USB drive or network. They can also activate the Auto-Save feature for raw images, data, and/or counted images. All these will be automatically saved to a USB drive or a specified network location after the analysis of each sample.
