#ALT# The Use of IMC-MS for Protein Characterization

In the pharmaceutical industry, accurate characterization of protein structure is crucial to understanding protein function and in facilitating the design of effective therapeutics. IMS separates ions based on their differential mobility through a drift-tube containing buffer gas. The differing mobility depends on an ion’s characteristic collision cross-section (CSS), which is greater in the case of larger ions that experience more collisions and take longer to cross the drift tube than smaller ions.     KeysightA double-edged sword: reactive oxygen species and how they are detected

Reactive oxygen species are unstable molecules containing oxygen as a by-product of the natural metabolism of oxygen. They are very reactive and can take many different forms. The build-up of reactive oxygen species to a high level inside cells is known as oxidative stress. This causes damage to proteins, DNA and RNA and can even result in cell death.

Forensic Nucleic Acid Analysis of Uncultivatable Microbes: New Method Expand the Microbial ToolkitForensic Nucleic Acid Analysis of Uncultivatable Microbes: New Method Expand the Microbial Toolkit

The molecular characterization of microorganisms is achieved by microbial culturing techniques. The primary bottleneck in this procedure is the inability to culture forensically relevant pathogens under laboratory conditions; moreover, nucleic acids may be low quality or damaged, rendering them incapable of analysis.

 Molecular Imaging in Drug Development

Molecular Imaging in Drug DevelopmentWhile healthcare has made significant advancements over the last century, and medical professionals are more equipped than ever with the tools to treat a whole range of illnesses, the landscape of healthcare continues to evolve, and with this ever-changing environment comes the continued need for new drug candidates.

Supercoiled Minicircle DNA Analysis: A Quality Assessment Based on Chromatographic Analysis

Supercoiled Minicircle DNA Analysis: A Quality Assessment Based on Chromatographic AnalysisA team from the Universidade da Beira, Portugal have developed a rapid and non-expensive analytical method for characterising minicircle DNA (mcDNA). This methodology represents the first analytical chromatographic method for the quantification of mcDNA. This work builds on existing research from which a purification strategy for the isolation of supercoiled (sc) mcDNA is achieved using a cadaverine-modified monolith.
