Secondary Antibodies: HRP-polymer Type

The use of HRP-polymer secondary antibodies is recommended to save time when completing an IHC experiment, to increase sensitivity and to avoid background due to endogenous biotin.

Micropolymer Technology

Micropolymer technology is used by HRP-polymer secondary antibodies to form smaller detection complexes that allow better tissue penetration and sensitivity. Also, HRP-polymer secondaries bind more horseradish peroxidase than standard HRP secondary antibodies, increasing signal.

Host species primary raised HRP-polymer secondary
Mouse Goat Anti-Mouse IgG H&L (HRP polymer) (ab214879)
Rabbit Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG H&L (HRP polymer) (ab214880)
Rat Goat Anti-Rat IgG H&L (HRP polymer) (ab214882)
Goat Donkey Anti-Goat IgG H&L (HRP polymer) (ab214881)

Biotin HRP-polymer Advantages
Protocol Additional steps for biotin blocking may be required On average 1 hour less Simplified protocol means quicker results with HRP-polymer secondaries.
Sensitivity ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Higher number of HRP molecules bound to HRP-polymer antibodies increase their sensitivity
Specificity Potential background from endogenous biotin No background from endogenous biotin Using HRP-polymer secondary antibodies eliminates biotin background.

Great for tissues with high biotin.
