PrimeSurface’s unique ultra-hydrophilic polymer for superior cell culture

PHC offers a range of high quality three-dimensional cell culture platforms. These platforms feature an array of well shapes, specifically designed to facilitate spheroid culturing of defined cell types.

The PrimeSurface range of cell culture labware features ultra-low attachment (ULA) plates and dishes designed to facilitate scaffold-free, self-assembly spheroid formation.

These innovative ULA plates have been pre-coated with a unique ultra-hydrophilic polymer, allowing for spontaneous spheroid formation with uniform shape and size. They also offer excellent optical clarity, making them highly suitable for both confocal microscopy and brightfield imaging.

Plates are available with different bottoms, allowing researchers to form tighter spheroids to accommodate specific cell types. The widely used 96 well U bottom plate is available, as well as 96 well plates in V and M bottom formats.

Larger 384 well plates are also available in clear and white options to better accommodate the needs of high throughput screening (HTS) applications.

The PrimeSurface series’ ultra-hydrophilic polymer coating is covalently bound to their plastic surface, inhibiting cell attachment and ensuring that there is no cytotoxic and material degradation.

The use of advanced coating technologies and production processes enable uniform spheroid and EB formation, as well as a smooth surface – factors that help ensure the acquisition of consistently clear cell images.

The PrimeSurface 96 Slit-Well Plate

PHC also provides a novel slit-well, ultra-low attachment 3D plate designed to facilitate rapid and straightforward media exchange without the risk of disrupting the spheroid formation.

Cell culturing applications frequently involve the need for routine media replacement – an essential consideration in ensuring that growing cells receive the required nutrition.

Media aspiration or dispensing can be done in a standard 96 well ultra-low attachment plate, but this must be performed extremely carefully – and often slowly - in order to avoid disturbing the unattached spheroid.

The PrimeSurface 96 Slit-Well Plate helps address this issue, allowing media exchange for 96 well plates to be efficiently performed via one-step dispensing or aspiration for all of the plate’s 96 wells.

Not only does the time-saving design of the Slit-Well structure enable simultaneous delivery of cell culture medium to all 96 wells, but it can also reduce pipetting time by more than 80% while significantly reducing the risk of spheroid damage.

Slit-Well plates are also ideal for users looking to grow larger spheroids in the same well for long-term cultures. These plates can accommodate 1.5 times more media volume versus conventional plates, allowing the provision of the additional nutrients required for larger spheroids.
