Men who smoke cigarettes may experience a significant decline in their capacity to father a child

Sperm from nearly two-thirds of the chronic smokers in the study failed a special test that measures the ability of sperm to fertilize an egg. On average, those men showed a 75 percent decline in fertilizing capacity when compared to nonsmokers. Discovery establishes a role for the gene Rsf-1 in ovarian cancer

Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center researchers have linked alterations in a gene, called Rsf-1, to the most deadly ovarian cancers. The scientists say the discovery is the first to establish a role for the gene in ovarian cancer and may lead to a test that can predict, early on, which patients will develop aggressive disease.

State-of-the-art treatment program increases survival from the aggressive uterine papillary serous carcinoma

"Our study defines a standard of care for this aggressive and growing form of uterine cancer," said Schwartz, who is also assistant chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The procedure more accurately determines the complete stage and appropriate treatment and reduces the recurrence of the cancer.
