Merck Serono announces first results from Erbitux BALI-1 study in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer

Merck Serono, a division of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, today announced the first results from the BALI-1 study of Erbitux® (cetuximab) in the treatment of metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), an aggressive cancer in which early relapse and metastasis are common. The data, presented during the 35th Congress of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), demonstrate that Erbitux has the potential to improve outcomes for women with this relentlessly devastating cancer.

COU-AA-301 Phase 3 study demonstrates improvement in CRPC survival rate

Results from a pre-specified interim analysis of a randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 3 study, COU-AA-301, demonstrate that patients treated with the investigational agent abiraterone acetate plus low-dose prednisone/prednisolone showed a significant improvement in overall survival compared to patients treated with prednisone/prednisolone plus placebo.

Genentech initiates GDC-0449 Phase II clinical trial in BCC patients

Curis, Inc. a drug development company seeking to develop next generation targeted small molecule drug candidates for cancer treatment, today announced that its collaborator Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, has initiated a Phase II clinical trial of GDC-0449, an orally-administered small molecule Hedgehog Pathway Inhibitor, as a single-agent therapy for patients with operable basal cell carcinoma (BCC).

Eli Lilly presents ALIMTA Phase III trial results at ESMO Annual Meeting

Eli Lilly and Company announced today that its global Phase III trial evaluating ALIMTA (pemetrexed for injection) in combination with cisplatin in patients with recurrent or metastatic squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (SCCHN) did not meet its primary endpoint for overall survival. Data were presented for the first time today at the 35th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Allos announces favorable survival data from FOLOTYN Phase 2b study

Allos Therapeutics, Inc. today announced the presentation of favorable survival data from the Company's international, randomized Phase 2b investigational study of FOLOTYN relative to erlotinib in patients with Stage IIIB/IV (advanced) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study, patients receiving FOLOTYN had a 16 percent reduction in the risk of death compared to erlotinib in the overall (intent-to-treat) population.

Afinitor-Sandostatin LAR Depot combination extends median PFS in patients with advanced carcinoid tumors

A Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation Phase III study of Afinitor® (everolimus) tablets in combination with Sandostatin® LAR Depot (octreotide acetate for injectable suspension) extended median progression-free survival (PFS), or time without tumor growth, in patients with advanced carcinoid tumors compared to taking octreotide LAR alone.

Seattle Genetics reports SGN-75 phase I clinical trial data

Seattle Genetics, Inc. today reported data from a phase I clinical trial of SGN-75 in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma or renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Preliminary results demonstrate tolerability and antitumor activity, including two objective responses in the first 16 patients treated. Dose-escalation is continuing.

DCIS patients with high mammographic density face subsequent breast cancer risk

Researchers at Kaiser Permanente have found that patients with a very early form of breast cancer (ductal carcinoma in situ or DCIS) who have higher mammographic density may be at increased risk for subsequent breast cancer, especially in the breast opposite to the one with the initial cancer.

Preclinical data of Enzon's PEG-SN38 in pediatric neuroblastoma published in Clinical Cancer Research

Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the publication of preclinical data demonstrating that PEG-SN38 (EZN-2208), the Company's novel PEGylated DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor, led to significantly greater tumor regression as compared to CPT-11 (irinotecan) in both in vitro and in vivo models of pediatric neuroblastoma.
