Diamyd Medical enrolls over 430 children with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes in global Phase III program

Diamyd Medical announces today that one hundred study participants have been included in the ongoing US Phase III study, DiaPrevent. The global Phase III program with the company’s lead drug candidate Diamyd® has thereby enrolled more than 430 children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in Europe and the USA.

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and AstraZeneca today announced the commencement of the “Saxagliptin Assessment of Vascular Outcomes Recorded in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus” trial, a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 4 study, to evaluate treatment with ONGLYZA™ (saxagliptin), a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor, in adult type 2 diabetes patients with cardiovascular risk factors.

Phase III study demonstrates superiority of imiquimod cream 2.5% and 3.75% in treatment of AK

The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD) has published Phase III data evaluating the safety and efficacy of imiquimod cream at two doses - 2.5% and 3.75% - administered daily on a 2-week treatment cycle. The study demonstrates that both formulations were superior to placebo, and that imiquimod 3.75% on a daily 2-week treatment cycle is superior to imiquimod 2.5% in treating actinic keratosis (AK) on a large surface area - the face or balding scalp.

Exposure to BPA during pregnancy causes permanent abnormalities in uterus of offspring

Researchers at Yale School of Medicine have discovered that exposure during pregnancy to Bisphenol A (BPA), a common component of plastics, causes permanent abnormalities in the uterus of offspring, including alteration in their DNA. The findings were reported in the March issue of Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

DiagnoCure: Global studies confirm clinical utility of PROGENSA PCA3 test

DiagnoCure, Inc., a life sciences company commercializing high-value cancer diagnostic tests and delivering laboratory services, announced that the clinical utility of the PROGENSA(R) PCA3 test, developed and commercialized by its partner Gen-Probe, was confirmed in two large worldwide studies, conducted in a subset of patients in GlaxoSmithKline's REDUCE trial of dutasteride. Presentation of results from open-label extension study of Xenazine

Lundbeck Inc. today announced the presentation of results from an open-label extension study of Xenazine- (tetrabenazine) for the treatment of chorea associated with Huntington's disease (HD). Data from this study demonstrated that after an 80-week treatment period, subjects treated with Xenazine experienced a statistically significant reduction in chorea score (p< 0.0001) as measured using the Unified Huntington's Disease Rating Scale (UHDRS) compared with baseline.
