Esophageal Cancer is cancer that forms in tissues lining the esophagus (the muscular tube through which food passes from the throat to the stomach). Two types of esophageal cancer are squamous cell carcinoma (cancer that begins in flat cells lining the esophagus) and adenocarcinoma (cancer that begins in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids).

Esophageal cancer risk could be reduced by esomeprazole and low dose aspirin

According to the results of a phase III trial presented at the 2018 ASCO Annual Meeting, two simple over-the-counter medicines – high dose esomeprazole and low dose aspirin when taken regularly can moderately lessen the risk of high grade esophageal cancer in patients who are diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus when taken for at least 7 years.
