CVS/pharmacy and Warner Home Video team up to raise critical funds for cystic fibrosis

CytRx to initiate a multinational Phase 2 clinical trial of its doxorubicin prodrug

CytRx Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company, today announced plans to initiate a multinational Phase 2 clinical trial with its doxorubicin prodrug INNO-206 as a treatment for patients with advanced soft tissue sarcomas who have failed surgery and radiation. Soft tissue sarcomas are cancers that are formed in the muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels or other supporting tissue of the body.

New finding reveals Barrett's esophagus in asymptomatic women undergoing endoscopic screening

In the November issue of GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a study out of Stanford University found that Barrett's esophagus was detected in six percent of asymptomatic women undergoing endoscopic screening.

A team of researchers at the University of California, San Diego and Stanford University has developed a way to simulate blood flow on the computer to optimize surgical designs. It is the basis of a new tool that may help surgeons plan for a life-saving operation called the "Fontan" surgery, which is performed on babies born with severe congenital heart defects.

Children exposed to similar amounts of secondhand smoke before and after legislation: Study

The smoking ban in Wales has not displaced secondhand smoke from public places into the home. A study of 3500 children from 75 primary schools in Wales, published in the open access journal BMC Public Health, found that they were exposed to similar amounts of secondhand smoke before and after legislation, which should reassure those worried that exposure to smoking at home could increase following the ban.

Marriott UMUC's initiative to collect funds for Children’s Miracle Network

Armed with $5 bills, the shoppers lined up waiting for the doors to open. Sound like some kind of bizarre sale? This was no sale, it was the scene at the opening of the temporary thrift store at Marriott’s University of Maryland University College Inn and Conference Center. Local community members in need were invited to stuff as many clothes as they could into shopping bags for $5 a bag. All proceeds went to the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN).
