Even well-behaved children may be oppositional at some point in time. Oppositional behavior may be seen particularly when young children are stressed, upset, hungry or tired. This is considered a normal part of development in children between the ages of 2 – 3 years old and in the early adolescent period. However, it becomes abnormal when it is characterized by persistently disobedient, defiant and hostile behavior towards parents and other figures of authority.

Accountable Care Options, the physician's group, is participating in the Medicare Share Savings Program, which encourages hospitals and doctors to hit certain health care standards designed to lower costs in the long run by reducing medical complications and trips to the emergency room.

Jane Costello, a Duke University professor of psychology and epidemiology and associate director of the Duke Center for Child and Family Policy. When treatment does occur, the providers are rarely mental health specialists, says the study, which was based on a survey of more than 10,000 American teenagers.
