Nile announces results of CD-NP Phase 2 study in renally compromised ADHF patients

Nile Therapeutics, Inc. a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel therapeutics for cardiovascular disease, today announced results of its Phase 2 study evaluating its lead compound CD-NP in patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and mild to moderate renal insufficiency. Study results demonstrated that multiple doses were characterized as well tolerated with favorable drug activity in this acute patient population.

More research needed on impact of exercise on hypertensive patients

There are many good reasons to ensure sufficient exercise in everyday life. However, advising patients with increased blood pressure (hypertension) to exercise regularly is often regarded as a specific medical measure aiming to reduce the increased risk of late complications. But whether more exercise actually helps to avoid illnesses related to hypertension or at least delay their onset has been insufficiently investigated.

Jefferson researchers progress in understanding mechanism behind systemic fibrotic disorder

Scientists from the Jefferson Institute of Molecular Medicine of Thomas Jefferson University are now several steps closer to understanding the mechanism behind a novel systemic fibrotic disorder that affects some patients with renal insufficiency who receive imaging contrast agents for MRI. Studies examine risk factors for hospital readmission

In two studies published today in the Journal of Hospital Medicine, the risk factors for readmission to the hospital are examined based upon general medicine inpatients and those with at least two admissions in a six-month period. Alongside clinical factors such as having cancer, chronic diseases such as heart failure or lung disease, or being on high-risk medications, the studies identified other factors which increase the likelihood of a patient being readmitted which could help hospitalists focus in on these groups.
