BSD 500 Hyperthermia System from BSD Medical

The BSD 500 Hyperthermia System provides another tool in the palliative treatment of some types of progressive and recurrent cancer. It can be used in combination with HDR brachytherapy.

The FDA has approved the BSD 500 Hyperthermia System for use alone or in conjunction with radiation therapy in the palliative management of certain solid surface and subsurface malignant tumors (i.e., melanoma, squamous- or basal-cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, or sarcoma) that are progressive or recurrent despite conventional therapy. The BSD-500 has been approved for the treatment of surface and subsurface tumors through superficial and interstitial techniques.

The BSD 500 microwave hyperthermia system is equipped with a 915 MHz power generator. The solid state generator has 8 channels (BSD 500-8) which can be independently adjusted in phase and amplitude. The 8 channel generator feeds into a 3 way power splitter. Therefore up to 24 applicators can be connected. There is also a 4 channel configuration available that provides up to 16 applicators through a 4 way power splitter.

The system itself is portable, space efficient and produces up to 400 watts of microwave energy in a single channel mode and up to 60 watts per channel in the eight channel mode. A high resolution touch-screen display is used for treatment planning, setup and monitoring during the procedure.
