Dental Apex Locators

A dental apex locator is an electronic device used in endodontics to determine the position of the apical foramen and therefore the length of the root canal space. The apex of the root has a specific resistance to electrical current which is measured by the instrument using a pair of electrodes attached to an endodontic file. An alarm or digital readout will signal when the tip of the file makes contact with the apex tissue.
