FEI releases software development framework for interactive remote 2D and 3D visualization

FEI announced the release of RemoteViz for Open Inventor, a software development framework for interactive remote 2D and 3D visualization.

At RSNA 2014, FEI will present Open Inventor 9.4, the latest release of their leading Software Development Kit, introducing a new essential extension for cloud and mobile application development: RemoteViz. The RemoteViz SDK enables application developers to build web-based applications that deliver high-quality 2D and 3D interactive visualization on any browser-enabled device.

In today’s ultra-connected environment, the data value chain has evolved. Providers of professional digital tools must now deliver solutions supporting the global architecture of data, from the desktop to the cloud, from the data center to the handheld device.

But these industrial-strength applications must deal with ever increasing data size, data complexity, and data security; as well as limited bandwidth, computing power and storage capacity on the mobile devices. Professional software applications for the medical market must be able to deliver high quality and performance on client devices while manipulating large, sensitive and shareable 2D and 3D data.

"Data is at the heart of the digital eco-system, and data use evolves significantly”, says Pascal Doux, Product Director Application Software at FEI.

There is now a need to access data securely anywhere, anytime, regardless of its size or complexity

Open Inventor’s RemoteViz introduces an innovative data-remote visualization software technology. It enables easy integration of advanced 3D capabilities into web-based applications, by providing a comprehensive set of built-in software components for advanced 3D data visualization, multi-touch interaction and client-server architecture support.

3D software applications based on Open Inventor’s RemoteViz run on a web server, potentially powered by a cloud ‘render farm’, and can then efficiently stream the rendered images down to multiple client devices, including tablet, smartphone, laptop, or workstation. On the client side, any HTML5-enabled browser can display the rendered image in real time and handle the interaction back to the server-based application for full interaction.

This zero footprint client architecture, coupled with the powerful 3D data visualization capabilities of Open Inventor, allows for the development of high-quality graphics applications that can share multiple remote interactive sessions, even on very large datasets.

The RemoteViz framework is based on standard open web technologies, ensuring full portability and cross-platform support of end-user applications. Open Inventor-based applications developed and running on the server side on a specific operating system can run on the client side on any browser-enabled device and on any mobile or desktop operating system.

"As leading software solution providers, our customers are building the next-generation applications” says Jean-Bernard Cazeaux, VP Application Software at FEI. “We are fully supporting them with the only all-in-one, ‘develop once, access everywhere’ 3D toolkit”.
