SAGE is to launch Foot & Ankle Specialist - European Edition from February 2011. The journal will be an international edition of Foot & Ankle Specialist (FAS), a bimonthly controlled circulation journal launched in 2008 publishing peer-reviewed clinical information for foot and ankle caregivers.

Ortho Kinematics: 23 patients enrolled in KineGraph VMA clinical study

Ortho Kinematics, a privately held spine diagnostics company focused on revolutionizing spine motion analysis, announced today that it has begun a multi-site clinical study of the KineGraph VMA™, and that the initial 23 patients have been enrolled. The study will help determine which types of patients are best evaluated with KineGraph VMA testing. Medtronic reports FDA Panel's affirmative votes on AMPLIFY rhBMP-2 Matrix for posterolateral spine fusion

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Devices Panel today voted 9 for and 4 against (1 abstention) on safety and 10 for and 3 against (1 abstention) on effectiveness, that data including results from a large, prospective randomized clinical trial demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of AMPLIFY™ rhBMP-2 Matrix for fusions of the lower spine in patients with degenerative disc disease.

UCLA Health System launches hand transplantation program

The UCLA Health System has launched the new UCLA Hand Transplantation Program, the first of its kind on the West Coast and only the fourth such center in the United States. The program will help those who have suffered the traumatic loss of a hand or forearm and allow them to regain function and improve their quality of life. Qualified candidates are now being sought for a clinical study of the procedure.

Zimmer second-quarter net sales increase 3.7% to $1.06 billion

Zimmer Holdings, Inc. today reported financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2010. The Company reported second quarter net sales of $1.06 billion, an increase of 3.7% reported and 3.3% constant currency over the second quarter of 2009. Diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $0.82 reported and $1.09 adjusted, an increase of 9.0% adjusted over the prior year period.

Johnson & Johnson second-quarter sales increase 0.6% to $15.3 billion

Johnson & Johnson today announced sales of $15.3 billion for the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 0.6% as compared to the second quarter of 2009. Operational results increased 0.1% and the positive impact of currency was 0.5%. Domestic sales declined 2.8%, while international sales increased 4.1%, reflecting operational growth of 3.0% and a positive currency impact of 1.1%.

Athletes who undergo tissue transplant surgery for knee damage can return to sports: Study

Athletes with bone and cartilage knee damage who are treated with transplanted tissue can return to sports after surgery, according to a Hospital for Special Surgery study reported at the annual meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, held July 15-18 in Providence, Rhode Island. The study (abstract 8970) overturns the widely held belief that patients who undergo this surgery do not return to athletics.

Study shows high rate of return to pre-injury level of function with arthroscopic treatment

Athletes who undergo arthroscopic surgery for a mechanical disorder of the hip have a good chance of being able to return to their sport at a high level of competition, according to a study that will be presented at the annual meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, held July 15-18 in Providence, R.I. Almost 80 percent of patients were able to return to play after hip arthroscopy at an average of 9.4 months after surgery, and roughly 90 percent were able to return to the same level of competition.

BioInvent reports net revenues of SEK 63.1M for January - June 2010 period

BioInvent reached an important milestone when the results of a phase II trial of TB-402 following orthopaedic surgery, were reported in May. The data showed that TB-402 is statistically better at preventing thrombosis than enoxaparin, the current standard treatment.
