4medica, the leading independent provider of Web-based connectivity between physicians and clinical laboratories, announced today that it will demonstrate the versatility of its Integrated Health Record (IHR™) solution at the 2010 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Interoperability Showcase at booth #233 in Hall C of the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from March 1-3, 2010.
“We successfully completed testing our implementation of the IHE frameworks and HITSP data standards at the IHE Connectathon event held last month in Chicago, thus qualifying to participate in the prestigious HIMSS Interoperability Showcase”
The Interoperability Showcase provides vendors, healthcare provider organizations and other industry stakeholders a critical venue to test, promote and ensure interoperability and data sharing across disparate information systems and care settings using technical frameworks and standards developed by Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) and the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP).
4medica will demonstrate the value and real-world interoperability of its IHR via two use-case clinical scenarios. In the first scenario, which involves biosurveillance, the company is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Regenstrief Institute, Inc. to provide bi-directional H1N1 reporting communication between physician practices and the CDC. 4medica’s IHR will act as a health information exchange (HIE) to assess and report H1N1 alerts to private practice physicians using electronic health records (EHRs).
In the second scenario, focused on cancer registry, 4medica’s IHR will fulfill the role of an HIE by electronically detecting and reporting positive cancer diagnoses to state or regional cancer registries operated by the CDC as pathology results are transmitted to physician EHRs. This immediate and seamless exchange of pertinent health information helps state agencies, the CDC and physicians monitor health-related trends in populations more efficiently.
“We successfully completed testing our implementation of the IHE frameworks and HITSP data standards at the IHE Connectathon event held last month in Chicago, thus qualifying to participate in the prestigious HIMSS Interoperability Showcase,” said Ravi Sharma, 4medica’s president and CEO. “We look forward to further demonstrating how our innovative solution supports interoperability standards enabling clinicians to deliver higher quality care, comply with public health reporting and enhance efficiency and timeliness of state and national biosurveillance programs.”
4medica’s IHR solution is a modular, Web-based application that integrates laboratory, imaging, pathology, e-prescribing and inpatient data from multiple sources into a single, patient-centric record, enabling hospitals, health systems and physician practices to access more complete information anytime, anywhere. The Company plans to deliver technology that helps eligible providers and hospitals qualify for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) incentives for meaningful use. 4medica will demonstrate the debut of its IHR at the HIMSS conference at booth #8647.
