Olympus hosts fourth annual neuroimaging symposium on functional brain imaging with cellular resolution

Olympus is hosting its fourth annual neuroimaging symposium in conjunction with the 2013 meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) on Monday, November 11 in San Diego. The Olympus Neuroimaging Symposium will be held near the Convention Center at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina, San Diego Ballroom – Salon A, beginning at 6:30pm.  The symposium and reception are open to all media and SfN registered attendees.

The topic of the symposium is Functional Brain Imaging with Cellular Resolution: The New Frontier of Brain Mapping. Speakers will be leading researchers from Dr. Karl Deisseroth’s laboratory at Stanford University. Dr. Deisseroth and his colleagues have been pioneers in the field of optogenetics and functional brain mapping, and last year published the new CLARITY method for clearing fixed brain tissue to allow for deep imaging and creation of large-scale neural connectivity maps. The study of fixed-tissue neural networks is vital, and work with fixed maps is critical for an understanding of brain structure. Simultaneously, the function of live neurocircuits can now be probed to provide additional insight into brain processes. The proliferation of optogenetic tools, fast calcium indicators and optical stimulation technologies has allowed optical stimulation and functional mapping of cellular responses across large brain areas. This symposium will focus on new technologies in light of the NIH BRAIN initiatives and discuss recent progress and challenges in functional mapping.

Because space is limited, registration for the symposium is recommended; it takes just a moment. To register for the symposium, visit https://www.olympusamerica.com/. Media members may call Vincent Park at (914) 523-4777 before noon on November 11 to secure a seat in the Press Area during the presentation.

Olympus has a long history of supporting researchers through education and professional development, and this is the fourth time that the company has convened this groundbreaking annual neuroimaging symposium. Olympus will also be exhibiting equipment for neuroscience applications at Booth 1529 at the SfN meeting, including the new FVMPE-RS multiphoton imaging platform, VS120 digital slide scanning system with darkfield, fluorescence, and a new iPad mobile app, IX3® flagship inverted research microscopy imaging platform, FluoView® FV1200 laser scanning confocal microscope system, SCALEVIEW objectives, LV200 luminescence imaging system, FV10i Live self-contained confocal laser scanning microscope system and CellVoyagerCV1000 spinning disk confocal system.
