Grammy Award-winning poet recognized with Top Blacks in Healthcare award

As a Grammy Award-winning poet, J. Ivy is celebrated throughout pop culture for his performance poetry, motivational speaking and hip-hop collaborations. Currently, with his new book "Dear Father: Breaking the Cycle of Pain," he will be recognized by BlackDoctor.org with a Top Blacks in Healthcare award at their gala on April 30, 2015.

"It is such an honor to be appreciated by this organization," J. Ivy stated. "I am inspired by their work in the community and how they enrich people's lives."

J. Ivy's support throughout the community is also legendary, with the accompaniment to his book, the Dear Father Movement letter writing campaign inspiring one million people to write letters to their own fathers.

"My passion has always been to use my voice to heal people," he revealed.

The BlackDoctor.org's program identifies distinguished African American leaders for their contributions to help improve the community and people's lives within it as Champions of Change. The award will acknowledge J. Ivy's accomplishments, reputation and expertise during the gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as to the twenty million visitors who visit the BlackDoctors.org website and social media platforms for the event.

"J. delivers a powerful message of hope, transforming his pain into power," noted Deepak Chopra, a spiritual leader and best-selling author. J. Ivy's work has enhanced the emotional health of boys and girls in addition to teenagers and adults.

J. Ivy received a Peabody Award for his performance on HBO's "Def Poetry Jam," as well as a Grammy Award for his contribution with Jay-Z on Kanye West's "The College Dropout" album. He also has collaborated with John Legend, RZA, The Last Poets, The Roots, Common and more. His latest works involve a commissioned poem and performance for Michael Jordan's 30th anniversary for the Jordan brand and a feature on Estelle's song, "Time Share" on her new album, "True Romance."
