1. William R. Peterson William R. Peterson United States says:

This award typifies the honorable efforts made in medical evacuation over the years by Tom Read. I have a vivid recollection of my return from Vietnam in June 1968. Tom's sister Jean, was my wife, and I took Tom to a local tavern in Columbus, OH. My mission that day was to convince Tom to stay away from the Army, and under no circumstances should he ever contemplate helicopters for a career. I thought I was successful, but 2 and 1/2 years afterwards Tom confessed that on one day in Hot LZ actions not far from his base at Phuoc Vinh "Medevac 15" lost not one but three aircraft as he did a round-robin to and from that LZ. Following that Tour, Tom served as commander of the 85th Med Brigade, Ft Meade, MD. As he was preparing to change stations for a new assignment he accepted an offer by the Maryland State Police to write a Medevac SOP. He did and that helped the people of Maryland, and visitors through out our interstate highway system to have a first class Medevac operation.  Tom Read is well-respected by all who know him. And so, in adding this award to his many other awards I ask you take a moment and render him a personal Hand Salute!
