    But would the myelin be a viable target for stem-cell treatment or gene-therapy?  Of course as a layman (caring for a parent with Alzheimer's and facing the same condition myself) I plead ignorance of the disease and/or treatment dynamics.  But from what I've read thus far, Alzheimer's as it is currently understood is not considered treatable by stem or gene therapy.
