Consider many of the children who had their tonsils removed, did so because they are mouth breathers, so their tonsils instead of their noses filtered incoming air. This leads to enlargement and airway constriction by itself, as well as infections. But there is another reason for airway constriction: mouth-breathing leads to underdeveloped facial structures and airways, so these people may develop obstructive sleep apnea, which definitely increases inflammation throughout the body. The cortisol produced every time  person chokes stresses all systems and increases heart attack, stroke risks, raises blood sugars, etc.
