1. John Kaiser John Kaiser United States says:

    1.  Many physicians do hunt and know firearms safety.  Unfortunately, many more do not.  Any gun owner should know the basic firearms safety rules. One that I teach my grandchildren is:  if you are at a friend's house and they find a gun, you run out of the room, find the parents and tell them and if you cannot find the parents you get out of the house and go next door and tell them or find a phone and call your parents!
Far too many people are first time gun owners and although they may think they are 'being safe' have no clue as to what true gun safety and responsibility is.
A physician who has never owned a gun has as much right to talk to a parent about gun safety as they do in telling parents of a newborn severely or other disabled baby to "put them in a state facility" because most physicians have never received training concerning special needs children much less gun safety instruction!
