Having written about retirement (21 Ways To Retire, Where To Retire In Australia and Retire Bizzi), I can see that it doesn't really matter what background a man has had prior to retirement, it can still come as a shock. The people that appear happier in retirement are the ones who have not really 'retired' but are doing things they enjoy and frequently still doing some kind of work (paid or unpaid).
