I have worked with NAS infants taking only Clonidine, infants taking Clonidine as an adjunct therapy with Morphine, and infants taking only Morphine. In my 15 years of experience, the middle group fares MUCH better, having less signs and symptoms of withdrawal as well as being able to wean off meds most quickly. The infants I have worked with taking only Clonidine have had severe signs and symptoms of withdrawal and most have gone on to need the Morphine as well!
