    They CAN be effective internally, but I would think that only a Naturopath (or open-minded MD) would have proper medical training to augment the study of essential oils for internal use.  Like prescription drugs, they can cause harm when used improperly.  I would be leery of any protocols from a book that advocate for internal use without involving someone with medical training.
