As a suicide survivor, I found that I fell neatly into the criteria - Female, psychotropic drug overdose, bipolar patient, age 34 at time of suicide attempt that happened in September. I still have no idea why I overdosed, other than my meds were not working and I was overwhelmed by the stress of single motherhood. Although I was taking Zyprexa, Celexa and Paxil, I never had the peace of mind necessary to function well until I was prescribed Abilify and Wellbutrin. They are my miracle drugs! I have been on these two pharmaceuticals since 2009 with no liver or kidney damage. Today, I do not work outside of the home, recently married my partner of 11 years, and I let my child's father have physical custody (I pay child support.) Life has never been better, and I want to encourage others because I lost a very dear friend to suicide this time last year. He was 38 and hanged himself, tragically. He was schizo-affective and having difficulty with his meds. Please do not attempt suicide, for it usually makes things worse if you survive, and if you do succeed, it leaves your loved ones feeling false guilt and remorse. Keep trying new meds until you find the right ones, open up to your doctor, friends and family when you're feeling overwhelmed, and absolutely reduce your stress level any way that you can.
