    The MDA study had over 1000 patients treated with with lumpectomy and radiation therapy limited to tissues around the tumour (partial breast irradiation- PBI). With a long follow up (of over 5 years), 96% of the patients did not need a mastectomy- this is an excellent proof of principle for PBI.
