    This approach was used 50 - 60 years ago with the veratridine alkaloids.  These drugs caused the sensory neurons in the carotid sinus to discharge faster.  Did not work very well and the drugs were always reserved for the "when all else fails" category.  The issue for this target on those neurons is that the receptors live elsewhere in the body and will produce side-effects.
