    Oh come on. If you read the Kandel paper you will see that whilst it appears to show that nicotine enhances the effects of cocaine (in mice) they don't even attempt to explain why someone would move from nicotine to cocaine in the first place - even the mice were force fed. The fact that cocaine use has increased despite a decrease in smoking prevalence is also a rather inconvenient truth the authors failed to deal with.
