1. Robert Su, Pharm.B., M.D. Robert Su, Pharm.B., M.D. United States says:

Aside the cause from psychological problem(s), erectile dysfunction generally is a result of constriction of the blood vessels (mainly the arteriole) inside the penis (even the female's clitoris). Vasoconstriction is a result of short supply of nitric oxide, which is produced and released by the inner layer of the vessels (endothelium), through the enzymatic chain to dilate the blood vessels for engorgement of the penis (or clitoris.) The blood glucose level is closely linked to the production and release of nitric oxide, thus is responsible for the development of erectile dysfunction.

The roles of hyperglycemia include (1) inflammatory and proinflammatory, (2) thrombotic and prothrombotic, (3) vasoconstrictive or prohypertensive, (4) arteriosclerotic and atherosclerotic, and (5) pro-glycation or glycosylation. All the medical professionals and many lay people should understand that there is no secret that the more carbohydrates (except the indigestible fibers) we eat, the higher the blood glucose level in our circulation will be. The higher the blood glucose level (hyperglycemia), the severer the vasoconstriction will be.

Restricting carbohydrate foods will reverse or avoid the diabetic condition, improve the cardiovascular system including erectile dysfunction, reduce the risks of many diseases including cancers and Alzheimer's disease!
